Scandinavian Color Palettes

Cool restraint, natural light, and the clarity of considered minimalism.

Scandinavian design and Japanese design share the same fundamental aesthetic commitment: remove what isn't necessary, and what remains should be beautiful. Both traditions converge on a palette of cool whites, pale naturals, muted blues, and quiet grey-greens — colors that work in low winter light and feel expansive rather than cold. Wada's catalog arrives at exactly this territory through different paths: the chalk-white of 'gofun' (胡粉 — crushed shells), the pale cool of 'hanada' (縹 — a blue halfway between sky and water), the grey-green of 'seiji' (青磁 — celadon ash glaze), the silvery neutral of 'gin' (銀). These palettes are reference material for Scandinavian interior brands, minimalist architecture, premium homewares, and any project that should feel like a well-lit room on a clear winter morning.
